Mark and Lard Reunion to be Accessible Online

clive579

Twenty years on from the end of their BBC Radio 1 show, Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley are to reunite for a one off accessible live show.

The popular duo – known as ‘Mark and Lard’ – will reminisce about their time on the airwaves, share backstage stories and bring back some of their famous catchphrases this coming Sunday (March 24).

Fans across the UK and beyond will be able to tune in from the comfort of their own homes, via ‘virtual venue’ Live to Your Living Room - an organisation with accessibility at its heart.

Live to your Living Room is an arts organisation with a mission to make live events more accessible for everyone.

The idea was sparked during the first COVID lockdown in 2020, when co-founders Cat McGill and Pete Ord began running online events and realised the potential for them to provide connection and community - not only during lockdown, but beyond it too.

A disabled artist herself, co-founder Cat has curated a wide range of inclusive music projects and spearheaded the UK’s first Makaton-friendly festival.

In 2021, she was recognised for her work running online events during the pandemic, receiving a British Empire Medal for Services to the Arts, and ‘Event Manager of the Year’ in the Women in Live Music Awards.

“I’m autistic myself and can struggle to access live music events because of the sensory overwhelm and crowds,” said Cat.

“In lockdown the more gigs we put on, the more people would get in touch and tell us what the gigs meant to them - some said it felt like the world had opened up to them for the first time; others were able to watch gigs with young children or older relatives, or to see artists who would never normally tour near them.

“As in-person venues were starting to open again, our audience members were saying very clearly, ‘Please keep doing these gigs’, and here we are four years down the line still going strong.

“Online gigs aren’t for everyone, but for some people they are a vital way to make the arts more accessible. That’s where we step in.”

Carry On: An Evening with Mark and Lard is available to watch online via Live to Your Living Room on Sunday 24th March at 7pm. Tickets £10 / £16.50 / £25 (pay as you feel).
