Your Time to Shine

Teenager Nevaeh Dunmore (pictured above) is encouraging disabled and neurodivergent children to showcase their talents in a charity competition.

The 16-year-old, who is autistic, dyslexic and has epilepsy, was one of three winners in last years’ Time to Shine competition run by charity Cauldwell Children.

The competition aims to recognise potential in every child by celebrating the talents of disabled and neurodivergent children aged 6-16.

“Performing is my happy place – I feel safe and untouchable on stage,” said Nevaeh, who won last years’ Time to Shine with a recording of her song called ‘Inside and Out’.

“I’ve written some of my own songs that touch on subject matters relating to how I feel and how I’m seen and treated as an autistic person.”

The inspiration behind ‘Inside and Out’ was her determination to achieve her dreams.

“I wanted to rise above those who judged and mocked me for being different,” said Nevaeh, who now studies vocals at The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Surrey.

“I hope my music helps others to believe in themselves and gives them the drive and enthusiasm to go forward with their dreams.”

Caudwell Children is a UK charity providing practical and emotional support for disabled and neurodivergent children and young people, and their families. Their services include autism assessments, specialist equipment and funding, family support sessions, and occupational therapy.

For the second-year running, the charity is looking for ‘superstar’ children to enter its Time to Shine competition. Whether they love to draw, craft, sing, act, dance, or do comedy, Cauldwell Children wants to see and celebrate their incredible talent.

“Winning Time to Shine last year was amazing, especially as it meant I got to perform in front of a big crowd at Cauldwell Children’s Family Open Day,” added Nevaeh.

“Being able to share my personal experiences through song was incredible and seeing how many people connected to it meant so much to me.”

To enter Time to Shine, send a video of your child’s performance, or photo of their artwork, to timetoshine@caudwellchildren.com by June 30, 2026. The winner will be announced on July 6, 2026. For further information visit https://www.caudwellchildren.com/
