Your Story Matters – Help Shape the Future of Living with Disability!

Everyone has a story worth telling.
At Living with Disability, we've always believed that disabled people should be leading this conversation — not just featured in it. So we're on the hunt for new writers to join us, and to help make our community of voices bigger, richer and more varied than ever.
We're growing. We're putting more into our content than we ever have before. And we'd genuinely love for you to be part of that next chapter.
We're Running a Writing Competition!
Got something you've written that you're proud of? Or maybe something you've been meaning to write for a while but haven't quite got round to? Either way, we want to read it.
Your article could be almost anything, really:
• Your own story, in your own words
• Something about disability, accessibility or inclusion
• An opinion piece on an issue that matters to you
• Practical tips or advice that might help someone else going through the same thing
• A feature on work, education, travel, parenting, relationships, sport, technology or health
• Something that celebrates resilience, achievement or community spirit
• A review, an interview, a feature — whatever format suits what you want to say
• Or just something you care about that you think people need to hear
It doesn't matter whether you've been writing for years or you're picking up a pen (or opening a blank document) for the very first time. We want your voice, not a polished version of someone else's.
What Can You Win?
First Prize: £250, plus your article published on Living with Disability
Runners-up: Your work will also be published on the site, so you get the chance to share your story with our growing readership.
But honestly, the prize money isn't really the point. What we're most interested in is finding people who want to keep writing with us — contributors who can help us build content that informs, inspires, and genuinely reflects the lives of disabled people across the UK.
How to Enter
Just send us an original piece you'd like to see published. We're looking for writing that is:
• Authentic — written in your voice, not anyone else's
• Engaging and thought-provoking
• Roughly 600–1,500 words (we're not precious about the exact number)
• Original, and not something that's already been published elsewhere
Deadline: Monday 31st August at 23.59pm.
Please send your entry to hayley@livingwithdisability.org.uk with the subject line 'WRITING COMPETITION 2026 ENTRY: [YOUR FULL NAME], [YOUR PIECE HEADLINE]'.
Together, we can build something where disabled voices aren't just included — they're heard, valued and celebrated.
We really can't wait to read what you've got to say.
Please note by entering, you are agreeing, if shortlisted, to your article being published online by LWD. If selected for publication, articles may be edited, with the editors decision final.
