Oliver Hirst-Greenham (pictured above) has been crowned champion of the English Disability Open Scratch Championship for the second time.
The England Golf Disability Squad player shot rounds of level-par (72) and +4 (76) to win the title at The Shire London by three shots.
“I wasn’t really expecting it because I’ve had such a rocky season, but I worked really hard to get my swing in a great place for the event,” said Oliver, who has congenital hip dysplasia, creating chronic issues for the muscles, tendons and bones in his hip and leg.
“The heat was ridiculous. 35 degrees, the greens were rapid, so it was really difficult to concentrate, really difficult to hold on to your clubs, it was just a real challenge to keep the ball in play sometimes with wet fingers!”.
Oliver is now set to play for the England Gold Disability Team in this month’s European Team Championships.
“I’m looking forward to going over to Italy to represent England, we’ve got a really strong team, it’s going to be incredible and I can’t wait.”
The European Team Championships for Golfers with a Disability will take place at the Golf Club Genova Sant'Anna in Italy from July 16-18.
