Sensory play experts PODSplay will provide a custom-built sensory tunnel for Parallel Windsor’s national inclusive sports event and festival of inclusivity.
The 12m tunnel will be at the heart of a unique SuperSensory1k route, supporting neuro diverse people with profound and multiple learning disabilities to exercise their senses over a series of challenges, such as responding to sound, taste, and touch.
Designed by PODSplay’s Alex Ford (pictured above), the custom-built tunnel will shower participants with fan blown soapy bubbles like a carwash as they run, push or walk through the SS1k in the historic royal Windsor Great Park on July 2.
Alex has been at the forefront of developing inclusive and immersive pop-up environments for special schools, respite centres, hospitals, hospices, creches and for use at home for more than a decade.
"Immersive environments provide a safe space that is designed to encourage relaxation," said Alex, who is featured in the current issue of Living with Disability.
“They are perfect for reminiscing or evoking the senses through providing an immersive experience, using technology and a pop-up POD, so I am very pleased to donate a sensory tunnel for Parallel Windsor’s Sunflower SuperSensory1k.”
With just over two weeks to go, you can still book to be part of Parallel Windsor and run, walk, wander, push or pull along Windsor Great Park’s stunning Long Mile in a truly inclusive event – with courses from 100m to 10k.
“It promises to be a joyful event that supports a more inclusive world and where everyone has the confidence to move more,” said the event’s creator Andrew Douglass.
“Parallel Windsor is about moving in your own time and style and about people having a go at something, meeting new people, and generally having a good time.
“Such as taking part in our Sunflower SuperSensory1k, which will incorporate PODSplay’s ‘Carwash’, a tunnel of soapy suds that will be blown onto you, creating a playful, windy, foamy, sudsy and soft sensory experience – just like being in a carwash!
“We are very grateful to PODSplay for providing the sensory tunnel as, like us at Parallel, they constantly push conventional boundaries to light up the senses and create playful inclusive environments.”
Entry to the event will also include an inclusive family festival with music performances from acts including singer/songwriter James Holt, The Adult Autistic Choir and Bader’s Big Band, a charity village, interactive games and sports, arts and crafts, storytelling, skills and careers and food and drink from around the world.
