ParalympicsGB Chef de Mission for LA 2028 Appointed

ParalympicsGB has announced that Penny Briscoe CBE has been appointed as Chef de Mission to the team for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.

Briscoe’s confirmation in the role follows a hugely successful Games for the British team in Paris last year under her leadership, where ParalympicsGB finished second on the medal table for the third consecutive Summer Games, winning medals across 18 of the 19 sports the team competed in – the highest of any nation ever.

LA 2028 will be Briscoe’s twelfth Games and sixth as Chef de Mission – a role she first fulfilled at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, having joined ParalympicsGB in 2001.

Prior to that, Briscoe was both an athlete then a coach in canoeing, which took her to Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.With a career in Para sport spanning 25 years, Briscoe’s passion, knowledge and expertise has been recognised both at home and abroad.

Last year she received a CBE for services to Paralympic sport in the King’s New Year Honours, while last month she was recognised in the International Paralympic Committee’s International Women’s Day Awards, receiving the award for leadership.

“I’m absolutely delighted and so proud to be given the opportunity to lead the ParalympicsGB team to the Games once again and I look forward to supporting and working closely with all the sports’ National Governing Bodies over the next three years as we prepare for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games,” said Briscoe.

“It remains an honour to be part of a world-leading support team that prides itself on creating environments where all team members – athletes and support staff - can thrive.

“I am as committed as ever to ensuring that ParalympicsGB is as best prepared for the Games as we can be, with a positive team experience at the forefront of all our planning.”
