heavily award-nominated film Hamnet (12A) is set to wipe the slate clean on how we think of England’s most enduring writer.
Based on Maggie O’Farrell’s best-selling novel, Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao brings together Irish powerhouses Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley as man and wife, William Shakespeare and the mysterious Anne Hathaway.
This heart-wrenching period drama follows the couple's early love and family life, with the story starting as two young dreamers meet in a field.
A tale of magic, love, commitment and dreams, Hamnet turns a new page on Hathaway, about whom not much is historically known.
Rather than mythologising Shakespeare, the film shows him in all his human vulnerability, through the eyes of his family.
Screenings at the Barbican in London until February 5 are all audio described, with a special captioned/audio described screening of Hamnet at 5.45pm on February 3.
