A new initiative encouraging primary school teachers to adopt an active approach to learning and include physical activity throughout the day has been launched.
Super Movers for Every Body from BBC Teach, the Premier League and ParalympicsGB, gives teachers video content-led ideas, and simple solutions to help children move while they learn - all free, fun, and easy-to-use in the classroom.
As part of the launch, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Foundation hosted an inclusive sports session for local schools to try out boccia, para-athletics and blind football.
Currently 1.5 million children in England have special educational needs or are disabled, but only one in four disabled children take part in physical activity at school.
Super Movers for Every Body is designed to tackle this issue and get everybody moving and to build on the inspiration of the 2024 Paralympic games.
As a lack of equipment can be a barrier to some disabled children taking part in sport, alongside the free online resources on BBC Teach, the campaign launched with an equipment giveaway of over 3,000 inclusive sport equipment packs, provided by the Premier League.
On the Super Movers for Every Body website https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/articles/zdk86rd teachers and parents can access loads of exciting free online learning resources for 5-11-year-olds.
The resources include engaging films to learn all about the inclusive sports blind football, boccia and Para athletics (guided running, javelin and shot put). There are also downloadable activity cards to practise the skills required to play these sports and inspiring articles on sportspeople too.
Schools who have been allocated full equipment packs, blind football packs, or poster sets will receive them by the end of November 2024.
