Up to 50 people with disabilities are to get the chance to soar the skies of South Yorkshire.
Thanks to a partnership between Doncaster Sheffield Airport and Aerobility, a charity making aviation more accessible, disabled people will be able to apply for introductory flights in a specially adapted light aircraft between May 26 and 29.
For more than 30 years, the charity has provided accessible aviation activities to disabled people with physical impairments, sensory impairments, learning disabilities, neuro diversity and mental health challenges.
Aerobility encourages all participants to ask themselves, ‘If I can fly an aeroplane what else can I do?’ and empower them to challenge their limits, conquer fears and learn more about aviation
“This is such a special and important opportunity to bring back adapted flights to Doncaster Sheffield Airport,” said Christian Foster, Director at FlyDoncaster.
“It’s fantastic to give anybody with a disability who may have an interest in aviation or just want to see their local area from a new perspective a chance to experience the wonder of flying.
“The light aircraft will be based here for several days to ensure people have plenty of opportunity to get involved. We’re committed to making sure that our airport is inclusive to all and we look forward to working with Aerobility now and in the future to make sure the aviation industry is accessible both for travel and career opportunities.”
Weight, body shape and size limits do apply due to the nature of a light aircraft and certain medical conditions mean that flying may not be possible for safety reasons. In these instances, the Aerobility accessible simulator is a fun alternative activity accessible to all. If hoisting is required, the maximum weight limit is 100 kg.
Anybody wishing to apply for an introductory flight experience between May 26 and 29 should visit www.aerobility.com/doncaster-2026 to complete an application form.
