Running legends Jagjit Singh (pictured right) and Arnie ‘the Turbanator’ Parmar will complete a milestone race for disability charity Leonard Cheshire at the iconic London Marathon.
Jagjit, 66, will reach a staggering 600 marathons on April 26, running alongside his good friend and fellow marathon veteran Arnie. The pair will raise funds for disability charity Leonard Cheshire and its care home Symonds House, which supports up to 20 disabled adults in Hertfordshire.
Jagjit, from Uxbridge, is a local councillor in the London Borough of Hillingdon and also manages an in-flight catering business at Heathrow Airport. Inspired by the long-distance running achievements of his father in India, Jagjit is thrilled at the prospect of reaching 600 marathons.
“It’s great to complete my 600th marathon with my friend as a kind of celebration,” said Jagjit.
“It’s really nice because Arnie has always encouraged me a lot. And I’m really pleased to run for Leonard Cheshire. Knowing we’re helping others gives us extra energy.”
Arnie, 66, whose full name is Gurbir Singh Parmar, began running in his early fifties. This month he will complete an already mighty seven London Marathons and more than 121 long-distance races.
Both marathon veterans firmly believe the London Marathon is the perfect location for a milestone race.
“There’s no better place to do this,” added Jagjit.
“The London Marathon is my favourite marathon. The crowd, the people, cheering from the start to the end, it gives you such a boost. So, the London Marathon is my special day every year, and especially this year! We’re looking forward to celebrating with our family and friends.”
