Wish People Could See Inside Your Mind?

clive579

Following the success of his award-winning BBC Two series ‘Inside Our Autistic Minds’, naturalist and presenter Chris Packham is looking for people who can help him shine a light on two different aspects of neurodiversity – ADHD and dyslexia.

The new two-part series will focus on four contributors and give them the opportunity to show the world, in their own words and images, what ADHD or dyslexia mean for them.

If you would like to take part as one of those contributors, details of how to apply can be found at https://bbc.castitreach.com/a/bbciom/iom/welcome

Working with cutting edge filmmakers, animators and photographers, the contributors will recreate their unique worlds in visually inventive short films created for those closest to them.

It’s estimated that 1 in 7 British people are neurodivergent. But many of them don’t know it. And no one is more curious and sensitive to this subject than Chris, who was diagnosed as autistic in his 40s.

This new series aims to promote understanding of the lived experiences of neurodivergent people, tackling the prejudice and stigma they can face. Acknowledging the challenges of these conditions as well as celebrating their benefits.

“The response we had to Inside Our Autistic Minds has been unparalleled,” said Chris.

“I have never encountered such a positive reaction to any programme I have been a part of. Central to this reaction has been people saying that we facilitated a greater understanding of autistic minds and banished many misunderstandings about the condition.

“ADHD and dyslexia are both equally misunderstood, so I am very excited about the challenge of exploring how they impact people’s day to day lives in education, work and relationships.”

The first series of ‘Inside Our Autistic Mind’ was widely praised by viewers for its representation of autism and it won Best Science Documentary at the Griersons, Best Representation of Disability at the MIPCOM Diversify TV Awards and Best Specialist Factual series at the Broadcast Awards.

The closing date to apply to take part in series two of 'Inside Our Autistic Mind' is April 29, 2024.

Just getting a diagnosis has to be a form of enlightenment. But unfortunately for most of us that’s never going to happen. I know there’s no PIP etc and that’s a crime to those more adversely impacted. But for me I feel this is more in line with my life than my bipolar diagnoses. I have severe autism in my family bloodline and I’m certainly not severe. I have depression in the other side of my bloodline. None of these define me as a person. However, although not justification for my life choices, it would go some way to explain how I have come to make decisions and subsequent actions. Why my mind doesn’t appear to filter out things others…
