Charity’s Website Achieves 99% Accessibility Score

Sight Concern Bedfordshire has achieved a groundbreaking 99% accessibility score for its new website.

In doing so the charity has gained top spot on the Silktide index for UK charities, setting a new standard for digital inclusion in the UK charity sector and demonstrating how prioritising accessibility can lead to truly inclusive online experiences.

To achieve this remarkable milestone, Sight Concern Bedfordshire partnered with The Developer Society, a digital agency known for crafting user-centric, inclusive digital experiences, with a strong focus on serving the diverse needs of the not-for-profit sector.

The charity's decision to prioritise digital accessibility aligns with its mission to support those with visual impairments, enabling them to live full, active and independent lives.

Its new website goes well beyond legal accessibility requirements. The site features optimised colour contrast, keyboard-friendly navigation, and comprehensive screen reader compatibility.

"The sight loss community relies on a variety of assistive technologies and text-to-speech tools,” said Carol O'Brien, CEO of Sight Concern Bedfordshire.

“Our site must function seamlessly with all of them.

“As a sight loss charity, we want to show what's possible: achieving the most accessible charity website in the UK with a small team on a low budget. What once seemed like an impossible task, perpetually slipping down our to-do list, was transformed by The Developer Society: building our new site and continuing to support us with insights and guidance to help us improve further.”
