New free guides will make it easier for residents and visitors with disabilities to visit public buildings in the London Borough of Wandsworth.
The council has teamed up with the organisation AccessAble to produce Detailed Access Guides for the borough.
These guides are designed to support residents and visitors with disabilities, helping them navigate and enjoy more than 150 local venues with greater confidence and independence, including libraries, leisure centres and entertainment venues.
The Detailed Access Guides are also useful for families with buggies, and other people with mobility and access issues. The guides enable people to find on-site parking, accessible toilets, automatic doors, step-free access and much more.
They are available on the web and are searchable by area, type of venue, type of accessibility criterion and other filters, and include measurements and photographs, including large, 360-degree images.
“We proud to have commissioned AccessAble to create these guides to make Wandsworth a more accessible and welcoming place for everyone – especially as we celebrate our year as London Borough of Culture 2025,” said Kemi Akinola (pictured above), Deputy Leader of Wandsworth Council.
“These guides remove uncertainty and empower people to make informed choices about where they go and how they get there.”
The information is set to enhance the experience of the many disabled residents and visitors who will be taking part in the various activities planned through the London Borough of Culture year.
“Acting as a legacy, these guides will remain live after the events have passed to ensure disabled people continue to benefit,” said AccessAble Director, David Livermore.
“The AccessAble programme has already supported 6.2 million people nationwide in the last 12 months and it is exciting to see these wonderful venues of Wandsworth as a part of this transformational programme.”
