Wheelchair Alliance Launches Free Membership Initiative

Wheelchair users, their families and primary carers can sign-up to become a member of the Wheelchair Alliance for free.

The organisation, which champions the needs of wheelchair users across England, has launched the scheme to coincide with Disability Pride Month.

Celebrated throughout July, Disability Pride Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of disabilities, start positive conversations and celebrate the diversity and differences of the disabled community – something that aligns with the values of the Wheelchair Alliance.

“Our job at the Wheelchair Alliance is to lobby for wheelchair users and become their voice, which is why we have launched our Wheelchair Alliance membership,” said Nick Goldup, Chair and Chief Operating Officer of the Wheelchair Alliance.

“The new membership platform will enable people to join the movement and make change. It is free for wheelchair users, their families and primary carers, and will give those signing up access to a range of benefits, online resources and the latest news, while supporting the Alliance in our mission to influence Government and healthcare providers into recognising the importance of timely and appropriate wheelchair provision.”

Alongside the launch of the new membership, the Alliance has also launched a new website and has committed to publishing a quarterly newsletter to help continue in highlighting change needed in wheelchair provision.

“We’re working hard on ensuring the voices of wheelchair users are heard,” added Nick.

“Our new website acts as a gateway to external policies, procedures and practice while our quarterly newsletters feature valuable information that helps to support wheelchair users and their primary carers and families.

“Wheelchair users deserve so much more, and we will continue to work hard to ensure that they are listened to and have confidence that every wheelchair service provides the choice and capability to fully deliver the outcomes of each individual person.”
